Calvin Coolidge

Have faith in Massachusetts. In some unimportant detail some other States may surpass her, but in general results, there is no place on earth where the people secure, in a larger measure, the blessings of organized government, and nowhere can these functions more properly be termed self-government.

Thanks Mika

i'm wondering if you're being facetious... are you? once upon a time (50s, 60s) birth control was illegal in massachusetts.

There is certainly a measure of that. I think it's ignorant to make political declarations about states based on questions of character.

My own county is often described by right wingers as a hot bed of liberalism but my own research shows that conservatives receive more money from locals than do liberals.

I'm going to do a post on this soon.

alyssa, do you mean that people couldn't buy condoms or the pill? I had visions of a volunteer police force, checking individuals for any paraphenalia (sp) prior to intercourse. =)

That quote by the way, could swing either way. It could just as well mean, have faith and wait, to see them outlaw gay marriage. Language is such a beautiful thing.

Actually birth control used to be illegal throughout the US. Mass. did have an extremely draconian attitude certainly at one point.

Yes Ben that is one of the beauties of the quote. It can fit into many different agendas. I am very attracted to language that allows others to put their own biases into it.
