Back In Spades

My iBook has been replaced with a brand new PowerBook. I still haven't figured out whether I am really missing two weeks of email but it looks like it. I'm still rebuilding and have much work to do to get my writing and development environment back in order.

Unfortunately because I have such a popular site, and eat bandwidth like a gold tooth saber tooth tiger, it looks as though I may lose my hosting. It may turn out that I simply can't afford to support all of this anymore. Stress and bother I say.

Saddam Hussein's Greatest Crime

is that he brought the American army to Iraq. So says a local. I think the same must surely have been said about Hitler or any other tyrant who is overthrown.

Is It Worse

that Dick Cheney receives a million dollars a year from Halliburton for drumming up business in the middle east? Or is it worse that the fucks at Left Behind take advantage of the situation to sell speculative fiction to more ignorant fucks who think that invading Iraq will bring about the second coming of Christ?

You have fifteen minutes. When your time is up the proctor will ask you to close your test booklet and hand it forward. Go!

As a Point of Observation

it is a very bad idea to put chipotle chile powder on your anus. Don't say you haven't been warned.

'Hitler' Producer Fired for Anti-Bush Statement

"It basically boils down to an entire nation gripped by fear, who ultimately chose to give up their civil rights and plunged the whole world into war. I can't think of a better time to examine this history than now," "It basically boils down to an entire nation gripped by fear, who ultimately chose to give up their civil rights and plunged the whole world into war. John Quincy Adams

Wherever the standard of freedom and independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will be [America's] heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

Currently On Rotation

  1. Linkin Park - Meteora: a friend gave this to us. He works with the band. K was a big fan of 'crawling.' M & K have become friends. He wants K to interview the band for her school newspaper but she is too shy. This is a lavish product. It is obvious the band has been hands on in every fashion. The material shows a heavy investment from the label. The piece was not realeased to anyone prior to the actual launch date. M wasn't allowed to here it until the launch date like evryone else in the world. There was obviously special attention made for the prevention of digital copies before the launch. I like this. As the two heads of the content producer / consumer snake become more aware bands are following tactics like this. Another example I know of is to release the review copies previous to launch only on vinyl. On the song 'nobody's listening' the interaction between the flute and the rest of the song structure is really cool. It is interesting that K would choose an interest in Linkin Park since the key words in the lyric are trust, pain, & memories. The songs of alienation are coupled in an interesting visual way in the painting which consumes the way the band has chosen to present itself. All of this alienation in the lyric is echoed by the medium of choice: spray paint. One thing that differentiates spraypaint from normal painting is that the painter cannot feel the painting surface. That lack of tactile response from the surface is unique and an interesting choice to match with these songs. One of the greatest things, to me, about being a recording artist is having the money and wherewithal to get a warehouse like Linkin Park did and make such an installation. I would love it if every few weeks I could do a completely new installation in my own space. That would be just amazing! I hope Mike and the guys had a good time creating all of this. It looks like a lot of fun.
  2. Placebo - Sleeping With Ghosts: the lyrics to Placebo songs are among the most interesting in rock right now. Biran Molko has an amazing ear for interesting rhythms in the english language. 'Protect me from what I want' is a perfect example of this. I love Placebo. I first heard Placebo when the song 'Pure Morning' off of Without You I'm Nothing was released. 'Pure Morning' is surely a perfect pop song. It's simply brilliant. 'Scared of girls' & 'Burger Queen' off of WYIN are also very well placed to be sure. Placebo was the house band in the movie Velvet Goldmine.

Rumsfeld's Babies

Have you noticed how irritated and condescending Donald gets with the press corp? I feel very sorry for his kids growing up. With any luck they were spared that by his important work which didn't allow him to spend time at home. If not they must have had a very difficult time due to his inability to model anything even remotely resembling patience. I wonder...has this trait been passed on to the grandkids?

"The images you are seeing on television, you are seeing over and over and over, and it's the same picture, of some person walking out of some building with a vase." -Rumsfeld 4/11/03

Technique Is Always the Hobgoblin of Process

I have not been posting for almost 2 weeks now. Beyond today there may be another 2 week break in posts as this iBook is replaced with a PowerBook.

Of note since I have been away:

  • I gave a small interview for AVN. I have no idea if it will ever see the light of day or, and if it does, whether it will be available online or just in the print version.
  • I've been asked to help with a Blind Date production. Sorry, but no.
  • I've got some comments about Consent Condoms. Would anyone actually buy these aside from rapists?
  • I am still seeking a fellow in the Southern California area who has a very large penis. If the largest condom available in the US is too small for you then drop me a note.
  • I haven't gone through with the Love Notes CD giveaway. That'll come soon after I get the infrastructure around here back up to speed.
  • My officemate asks me yesterday if I have changed my mind about the war based on pictures of Iraqis dancing in the streets. No. I'll explain more later.
  • I finally got together my old piece from Ones & Zeroes, "The Weirding Way," on the first Gulf War. It'll be posted soon.
  • I finished my interviews with the Raging Cow kids. Look for that soon.
  • I have a piece of gay erotica to post.
  • I have been working on a huge project, in secret, which will completely re-configure my life professionally. The end of this process will allow me to begin work on my blog/community project. More on this later.
  • I have been asked to build the front end for a web application. This should be fun and it pays well. Yea!
  • Which is especially attractive as my truck has given up the ghost for the final time, see burning dashboard, and I must find something to replace it.
  • I have been made aware of another fascinating project involving marketing and blogs. I hope to be able to post about this in more detail before it officially launches.
  • This domain is being transitioned in DNS. If you see strange effects you should either stop taking so many drugs or just chill until the DNS transition is finished.
  • I have enrolled this site in the Blogshares system. Go buy some shares why don't you!
